Camera angles are a huge part of this scene. One of the first camera angles used is a birds-eye view. This is often used to show how venerable and small someone is compared to something. In his case, it showing how vulnerable Jerome is next to the staircase, and because it represents a DNA strand because of its double helix shape.

This scene is shown right after Vincent is forced to take the blood test to see if he is guilty of murder. The tester lefts he goes knowing that it was his eyelash. This scene shows circular tunnels which resemble veins or blood vessels. This links back to see as DNA runs through our blood. It signifies that he is in fact linked to the eyelash even if the audience hadn’t picked it up yet.
