Swimming is the use of symbolism as it is used a couple of times during the movie. The first time is when Vincent and Antone have a swimming race in the ocean and Vincent gives all of his power just to win and then says “I didn’t save any for the way back” And that is how he won because he never gave up, unlike Antone. Even though Antone had the physical capability to win he didn’t because he didn’ have the same drive to succeed that Vincent did. The second time that the use of symbolism was portrayed through swimming is when Gerome killed himself in the furnis. He uses to be a swimmer and had the physical capability to win but never had the drive to. Another thing he didn’t have to drive to do is to live. At the end of the movie, he killed himself with the medal in hand to show that he had no more drive to live just like he had no drive to win.
